Ghana To Experience Partial Eclipse On August 21

Director of the Centre for Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems of University of Ghana, Legon, Professor Emmanuel Amamoo Otcher has revealed that Ghana will experience partial eclipse of the sun in the afternoon on August 21.

On Monday, August 21, 2017, all of North America will be treated to an eclipse of the sun. Anyone within the path of totality can see one of nature’s most awe inspiring sights.

This path, where the moon will completely cover the sun and the sun's tenuous atmosphere - the corona - can be seen, will stretch from Salem, Oregon to Charleston, South Carolina. Observers outside this path will still see a partial solar eclipse where the moon covers part of the sun's disk.

Former Executive Director of the Centre for Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems of University of Ghana, Legon, Professor Emmanuel Amamoo Otcher who confirmed this to ATL FM News says Ghanaians will experience it partially in the afternoon.

“It will start in the morning in the US but in the afternoon in Ghana precisely. It will be seen at Greenwich Meridian Time 3:30 in the afternoon”.
Prof. Amamoo Otcher cautioned people against watching the rare occurrence without protective glasses.
